Learning visual biases from human imagination

چکیده
Although the human visual system can recognize many concepts under challenging conditions, it still has some biases. In this paper, we investigate whether we can extract these biases and transfer them into a machine recognition system. We introduce a novel method that, inspired by well-known tools in human psychophysics, estimates the biases that the human visual system might use for recognition, but in computer vision feature spaces. Our experiments are surprising, and suggest that classifiers from the human visual system can be transferred into a machine with some success. Since these classifiers seem to capture favorable biases in the human visual system, we further present an SVM formulation that constrains the orientation of the SVM hyperplane to agree with the bias from human visual system. Our results suggest that transferring this human bias into machines may help object recognition systems generalize across datasets and perform better when very little training data is available.

Explaining the Level of Human Thought in the Parallel Civilizations Based on Formal Structure and Visual Imagination Formed in Mythical Narratives
Myth, like any other form of narrative, has an undeniable role in visual imagination based on the foundations of mythical thought. Ernst Cassirer, by recovering the fundamental principles of mythical thought, brings against them to the foundations of contemporary rational thought and defines the fundamental features of mythical thought as compared to modern rational thought. He also believes t...
متن کاملTheoretical Assessment of the SOILIE Model of the Human Imagination
We describe the overall theory of the SOILIE model of the human imagination. In this description, we outline cognitive capacities for learning and storage, image component selection and placement, as well as analogical reasoning. The guiding theory behind SOILIE is that visual imagination is constrained by regularities in visual memories.

Background and Aim: In processing large data, scientists have to perform the tedious task of analyzing hefty bulk of data. Machine learning techniques are a potential solution to this problem. In citizen science, human and artificial intelligence may be unified to facilitate this effort. Considering the ambiguities in machine performance and management of user-generated data, this paper aims to...
متن کاملHuman-level concept learning through probabilistic program induction.
People learning new concepts can often generalize successfully from just a single example, yet machine learning algorithms typically require tens or hundreds of examples to perform with similar accuracy. People can also use learned concepts in richer ways than conventional algorithms-for action, imagination, and explanation. We present a computational model that captures these human learning ab...
متن کاملImagination inflation in the mirror: Can imagining others' actions induce false memories of self-performance?
Imagining oneself performing a simple action can trigger false memories of self-performance, a phenomenon called imagination inflation. However, people can, and often do, imagine others' behavior and actions. According to a visual-similarity account, imagining another person's actions should induce the same kind of memory error, a false memory of self-performance. We tested this account in thre...
